Suprglu

No I didn't spell that wrong. Suprglu is the newest way to blog, or as I now call it "autoblogging" or the "lazy man's blog". All you need to do is enter your username for the sites which you might already be browsing, such as digg.com or flickr.com, and at the end of everyday Suprglu logs it. Check out my Supr Hip Suprglu site:

This video is a spoof on Apple's 1984 ad.

Post CES

How I got invited to the CES New York press preview is simple: I registered. The ratio of real journalists to random folks like me: about 75:1. None-the-less, I had a great time. The afternoon begun with a trends analysis and then the room opened up to preview all the latest gadgets.

I was welcomed to a trends analysis review by a Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) analyst, Sean Wargo, whose predictions have our holiday market looking good. The sum up was as follows:
Healthy Industry; Dreary Consumer
CEA surveyed 100 random American households to find their results. Some of the most interesting statistics shows a higher spending trend. When asked if they would spend more or less on gifts this year, 37% said they would spend less, but their actual dollar amount of how much they plan on spending was 14% higher ($1430 up form $1250 last year). This interesting stat comes from the fact that the items being purchased are more expensive per unit, as opposed to previous years. We now see a shift to items like the ipod and LCD TV rather than a discman or tube TV. Those two items alone account for the upturn and if predictions stay true, will show a $17 billion holiday spending season.

Some of this year's most exciting gadgets are the mFuel emergency charger, the eMagin OLED 3d goggles, and Kodak's Easyshare One (4mp wifi camera). I will have pictures and reviews up soon.

CES

I finnaly recieved my press invitation to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES); New York press preview. On Tuesday, November 15, I will be engulfed in gadget utopia (not to be confused with real utopias). This event showcases the latest gizmos from around the world, and there might even be some giveaways. I can't wait. I might need to invest in a better camera.

One Red Paperclip

Can you master the art of trading? This guy has been documenting his bartering skills as he moves on up from one red paperclip. The only problem is that he hasn't updated/traded wince September. Right now he has a red generator.

I am the current top bidder on Ebay for the "Official Red Paperclip". Rock On!

I love this idea. Maybe I will create my own blog like this. Stay tuned, look out, trade with me for random stuff and be satisfied.

I love beer ads. My favourite used to be "The Rant" (I am Canadian) for Molson Canadian, but now, "Big Ad" for Carlton Draught has topped my list. Enjoy!

Trying New Things

Today I discovered a few important, and huge involving websites that occupied the greater part of my day. As such I did not get too much time to research launches, news, and other fun stories. By tommorow I should be back on track.
  • Technorati is a powerful website that searched blogs, news sites, feed and is your own personal assistant for those of us who blog oursleves. "Technorati brings you what' happening on the web right now".
  • Of note is del.icio.us, a live bookmark editor. Not only can you add, label, and catagorize your favourite links, other members can add to your catagories as well. It's like labeling a manila envelope, putting in your drawer, and then when you reopen it, you discover all sorts of new, relevant material.

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005, Day 2 - Part Deux

Today, although I felt mostly unproductive, I did manage to research and accumulate plenty of interesting links and new products from around the web. Enjoy:

Tech:

  • Nokia today unveiled the N92 Smartphone. This must have gadget opens sideways to let users watch TV on its 2.8" screen courtesy the onboard digital receiver.

  • HTC unveiled the latest Windows Mobile Communicator, the Muse. According to Engadget, the Muse won't be available eight months. It will feature 4GB of flash memory; Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Infa-Red; and FM radio and built in speakers; a 2.1 megapixel camera with a second VGA camera on the front for video calls; USB 2.0 and TV-out.

  • Sanyo announced their ENELOOP batteries yesterday, which are being labeled ,"the rechargeable batteries of the future." Bonus: these rechargeable and Nickel Metal Hybrid batteries come already charged.

  • MotroPCS, a new cellphone company, as a new concept that I think will spread like wildfire. No Set Minutes. No Contract .That's right! One monthly fee; unlimited talking. The only downside is their limited coverage as of yet: Georgia, Florida, and parts of California.

Funny:

  • I stumbled upon dresskevin.com yesterday and immediately sent the link off to a bunch of quirky friends. This 22 year old from Hoboken, NJ, has categorized and photographed his ENTIRE wardrobe and is available on this site. At 9 am everyday, Kevin dresses in the outfit that got the most votes.

  • This absurd invention can save your life should there be a fire in your house. The Toilet Snorkel snakes through the zigs and zags of your toilet, so you can breath sewer air instead of smoke.

Plain Old Cool:

  • Every time my mother has to call a company hotline I hear the same complaint, "I never get to speak to an actual person anymore!" Well, mom, here is the Cheat Sheet you've been waiting for.
  • Walmart has hired the Dream Team of Political Campaign Consultants to ward off the bad press they have been receiving recently. Besides for the regular calls to journalists, blogs and positive photographs they have been generating, this team has produced a short film to counter the newly released "Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price," an unflattering documentary about Walmart's negative impact on communities.
  • The 39th Tokyo Motor Show 2005 showcased some amazing new and concept cars. While many car manufacturers have outstanding websites showcasing their wares, Toyota stands out. My favourite of the concepts was the Toyota Estima, a Hybrid Minivan. The coolest feature has to be the back row captain's chairs double as recliners with full leg rests (when the middle row is folded into the floor).

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005, Day 2

I was up late when I noticed this:

Wired Magazine is opening a retail store in SoHo (Manhattan, NY) from November 18 - December 24.  They are even offering a shuttle service to your next location on weekends.  Who is joining me at the grand opening? AND getting a lift back to the heights on the weekend....sweet!

Tuesday, November 1st, 2005. Day 1.

Today has seen a flurry of new developments online. The most notables are:
  • Microsoft's launching of Live ; their answer to yahoo and google.
  • Research In Motion (RIM) and Cingular Wireless released today the Blackberry 8700c.
  • Motorola and Nextel released today the Motorola i870.
  • Nokia awarded 5,000 Euros for this innovative design, the Nokia 888.
  • AOpen's new MiniPC which runs either Linux on a Celeron M processor or Windows XP on a Pentium M Processor. Their obvious direct competitor is Apple's Mac mini.
  • Belgium's web extension ".be" got a push from E3Internet by giving away free domain regisration. I registered for around 30. It seems that although the offer was supposed to be from November 1st until January 1st, the site is already down. Sorry to those who missed out. Ill post when I find out which sites were actually registered.
  • Zap, the environmnetally conscious auto distributor, bought 20% of Obvio!, a Brazilian car company. Zap ordered 50,000 sporty and economical minicars to be brought to America. There are 2 models, the lower end one starting at $14,000. Supposedly, orders are already too high to be takingany new orders.
